Ladera Ranch resident, Katie Hawley (shown right and below, left) is fighting Stage 3 Neuroblastoma cancer in her abdomen and lymph nodes.
In July, what presented as a stomach ache was subsequently diagnosed as cancer.
Within two weeks of receiving this news, Katie had surgery at Children’s Hospital LA and began a seven round treatment process of chemotherapy, which includes stem cell chemotherapy.
Katie, 9, starts 4th grade student at Stoneybrooke Christian School. However she won’t be able to attend classes this school year due to the extended timeline for chemotherapy treatments.

o is a SC Blues U10 soccer player, is most passionate about her sport. But she also loves to sing and dance, hang out with friends, bike ride with dad, and swim.
She started gardening this summer and hopes to be able to start guitar lesson at some point in the near future.
Katie and her sister, Melanie, who turns 13 on September 12, and her parents Bob and Mary Kay Hawley, live in the Wyeth neighborhood of Oak Knoll.
The truth is, Katie and her family have a long and difficult battle ahead.
